With data from our community mapping event held on 12/1/2011, the following results have been generated:
Vulnerability
Participants were asked to rate how safe they perceived each area they observed to be on a scale of 1-5.
Most indicated that they felt neither safe nor unsafe, and an equal number of “safe” and “unsafe” areas were reported.
Lighting
About half of the participants described the light index on campus to be “well-lit” or “partially well-lit”, while
about a quarter of them indicated that some areas were “poorly lit”.
If you do feel unsafe, when do you feel most unsafe?
The majority of participants feel unsafe during nighttime hours.
Reason for vulnerability?
An overwhelming majority of students feel that darkness and isolation can be attributed to feeling of vulnerability on campus.
